If you are struggling with managing your reactivity and feelings of anger, it can and probably already has led to many negative behaviours that will wreak havoc on your life. Out-of-control anger destroys your essential relationships, career, and mental and physical health.
Anger management classes can assist you in learning new and more productive responses to anger, allowing you to regain control of your life and relationships.
An anger management counsellor will teach you to recognize early signs of anger and respond better when anger strikes, allowing you to deal with adverse situations more positively. Through self-awareness and changes from reactivity to better responding to the difficulties in life, a highly angry person can begin to see results, moving closer to mid-range anger in 8 – 10 weeks.
Anger management courses aren’t about having you repress natural feelings of anger but showing you how to express anger in a healthy, constructive way. Managing anger well is a learned behaviour requiring practice and persistence. Many circumstances and people evoke anger within us; that we can’t change. However, you CAN learn how to manage your reactions to them better.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a natural disaster, severe accident, terrorist attack, war, rape, or other violent personal assault. The typical psychological response to a traumatic experience is shock or experiencing acute stress. However, people with PTSD have intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. They relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares. They also may feel sadness, numbness, fear, or anger, and they may feel detached or estranged from other people.
Living with PTSD can create many emotional challenges; in some cases, these may be so severe that your health is negatively affected. A typical PTSD symptom includes being disoriented and unable to comprehend the things happening around you. However, as the mind begins to process the traumatic situation, these symptoms typically become less severe and may potentially start to lift gradually. This makes it critical to address the issue immediately and work to find effective treatments and techniques.
The good news is not every individual dealing with a traumatic event will develop PTSD. However, when it comes to PTSD, a person can remain in a state of mental shock for a long time. If this happens to you, there is a high potential for symptoms to begin to worsen. It is also possible for a person to develop PTSD many years after the trauma. There have been some cases where severe symptoms only develop several days or even years later.
There are many different anxieties and they can be defined as an individual’s response to a threat, real or imagined.
It is a process, to some extent, that is present in all living things. Anxiety isn’t always bad. It can assist us in coping with tense situations and motivate us to work harder or stay focused when working towards a goal.
However, chronic anxiety that is excessive, irrational, and debilitating can interfere with our overall quality of life. It becomes chronic when anxiety interferes with our ability to function in daily life, work, school, and relationships. Chronic anxiety is fuelled by the fear of what might be.
While some amount of anxiety is part of being alive, if worries and fears prevent you from living your life, it would be helpful to contact us as we specialise in anxiety disorders.
Unlike acute anxiety, created by a stressful event like driving in bad weather, chronic anxiety or anxiety disorders are present for a long time without any imminent threat. Anxiety disorders respond very well to treatment; however, not many people seek treatment for anxiety. People who experience chronic anxiety can be successfully treated and go on to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
Personal and family relationships can be both fulfilling and challenging. Therefore, the more you understand yourself – your emotions and behaviours – the better you can communicate with loved ones (including your spouse) and effectively function in your daily life. Marriage is one of the most monumental relationships you will ever have in your life, but it’s important to be realistic. Every marriage will have its “ups and downs” and “highs and lows.” That is normal.
During the “highs,” you and your partner will feel connected, in love, and passionate about each other. However, during the “lows,” one or both of you may feel cold, indifferent, distant, and/or hostile towards the other. You may argue so much that you contemplate separating – or divorcing. For some, this stage only lasts a few weeks, but for others, it can last for years.
Many LGBTQ+ individuals seek counselling for reasons similar to non-LGBTQ+ individuals and while some issues have little to do with sexuality, gender, or identity, although we do understand that the LGBTQ+ community does have their own set of unique challenges as well.
Research suggests that LGBTQ+ individuals seek mental health treatment at a higher rate than their non-LGBTQ+ counterparts. This may be due to the stigma and discrimination LGBTQ+ individuals often face on a regular basis, from society, family members, peers, co-workers, and even classmates. This discrimination contributes to the higher rates of depression, anxiety, and other mental health struggles seen amongst LGBTQ+. Those in the LGBTQ+ community are also much more likely to have a substance abuse problem, engage in self-harm behaviours, and/or experience suicidal thoughts. Thus, it is not surprising this population seeks mental health services at higher rates, with us, this service is provided at a reasonable rates with a high standard of services with an LGBTQ Therapist.
Child counsellors perform many services to vulnerable youth. Children of all ages, from toddlers and pre-schoolers to teens and adolescents, can benefit from counselling sessions. These specialized mental health professionals have the know-with-all to help your child receive the help they need to resolve his/her issues and resume a healthy and productive life.
It is important to understand that children, who are suffering from mental health issues or psychological distress, may not share these concerns with their parents. That doesn’t happen because your child doesn’t love you; rather, it occurs because they fear disappointing you. Therefore, the aim of child counsellors is to help children better interpret the issues they are experiencing and/or the trauma that occurred – in a way they can process and understand.
When a child’s social and emotional issues and psychological distress are left untreated, it can negatively impact his/her educational aspirations and developmental milestones. Even more importantly, it can cause delays that persist well into adulthood.
Ultimately, this child counselling aims to help children work through their emotions, so they can live normal healthy lives without the lasting effects of fear, confusion, anxiety, or trauma.
